Man Charged After Md. Apartment Complex Fire

CHEVY CHASE, Md. (AP) -- A man has been charged with intentionally setting a fire at a Chevy Chase apartment complex that damaged nearly three dozen units and injured two firefighters.

Montgomery County fire officials say Abraham Ogazgi Kiflu confessed after midnight Wednesday to starting the Tuesday
afternoon fire, which caused more than $1 million in damage.

Kiflu, 24, has been charged with first-degree arson, and additional charges are pending. Online court records don't list
a lawyer for him, and he did not immediately return a telephone message left at a public listing for him.

Authorities say he was living at the apartment complex and is a relative of a tenant.

The fire damaged or destroyed 34 units and displaced more than 100 people.
