Anne Arundel County Police Shoot Man Armed With A Knife
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- Officials have confirmed a police-involved shooting in Anne Arundel County on Friday night.
The shooting occurred on Route 50 eastbound near 424 around exit 16.
Officers were called to the scene at 9:44p.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department was first on the scene and found no accident but encountered a man armed with a knife who immediately started acting threatening towards the fire personal.
Police officers arrived moments later and confronted the armed suspect before he could injure any of the fire personnel. The suspect failed to comply with officers orders to drop the knife he was holding and get on the ground.
Corporal R Heller, a 20-year veteran, then fired one shot striking the suspect who has since been transported to an area hospital.
The condition of the suspect is not known at this time but he is facing an active warrant for seven counts including first degree assault, second degree assault and reckless endangerment.
Upon his release from the hospital he will be served with the warrant and his name will be released at that time.
The suspect is a Prince George's County Volunteer firefighter
