Anne Arundel County Police Believe Gas Station Robberies Are Connected
GLEN BURNIE, Md. (WJZ)—A string of snatch and grab robberies has several Anne Arundel County communities on alert. Victims have been robbed at gas stations.
Rochelle Ritchie spoke to a clerk who was held up at gunpoint.
The clerk says he has only been on the job four months and is hoping an arrest comes soon.
Surveillance video from the BP Gas Station on Veterans Highway in Anne Arundel County shows a masked man with a gun threatening customers before robbing the place.
"I was thinking, 'Wow, there is a guy holding a gun up to my face, never experienced this before,'" said Jeremy Bluteau, who works behind the counter.
Bluteau says the robber used his gun to force two customers to the back of the store.
"They were kind of petrified. They were just standing there. They didn't know what to do. He was commanding them to do stuff," Bluteau said.
Anne Arundel County Police say robberies like these are happening often and randomly across the area. They believe the robbers may be connected.
"The BP Gas Station in Millersville was hit, also the Wendy's in Glen Burnie and Dunkin' Donuts in Pasadena," said Justin Mulcahy, Anne Arundel County Police.
Early Monday morning just before 5 a.m., police say a man approached a woman at another BP Gas Station and asked to use her phone.
When the woman got back into her car, she tells police the suspect opened the passenger side door and took two of her handbags. She tried to fight him off, but he threatened her with a knife.
With news of the robberies, people are being cautious.
"We just stay together, visibly together and that keeps people away," said Tammy Hogan, of Glen Burnie.
Bluteau is back at work and is hoping whoever is seen on the surveillance video threatening his life is caught soon.
"You never think it's going to happen to you. You always think it can happen to someone else. It's just something that never occurred to my mind," he said.
The good news is that in all of the robberies that have taken place no one was injured.
If you have any information on the robberies you are asked to call Anne Arundel County Police.
