Anne Arundel County Holding COVID-19 Vaccinations Clinics At 4 Middle Schools

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- Select middle schools in Anne Arundel County are being used as vaccination sites, not only for Covid-19 but also for required meningitis and TDAP vaccines.

"There is no question about this being a seasonal virus so we are continuing to keep the pedal to the metal on getting people vaccinated as soon as possible so that by fall we don't have a significant fall surge," said County Executive Steuart Pittman.

Dr. Nilesh Kalyanaraman, the County's Health Officer said, "75 percent of adults 18 and over have had one shot. That's great. We need to keep pushing on that. Fifty-eight percent of the population has had at least one dose and that's all ages."

Parents are reacting to the vaccine sites. "I think it's really cool, I think it would be even more cool if they could get buses to bring the kids who don't have transportation to the vaccine sites," said one mom.

Children 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult to get the covid-19 vaccine, but while getting those shots students entering 7th-grade can also get meningitis and TDAP vaccines needed to start the school year.

"We'll be offering the required 7th-grade vaccines, meningitis and the TDAP vaccines because we know at the start of every year there is a great number of students who just don't have them and can't come back until they get them. We don't want to create any delays," said Dr. Kalyanaraman.
