Anne Arundel County Police Make Arrest In Armed Robbery At Maryland Live! Casino
HANOVER, Md. (WJZ) --Quick work by Anne Arundel County Police as they arrest a suspect they say held up two people at Maryland Live! casino. It's the latest in a string of crimes there.
Rochelle Ritchie has more on the suspect in custody.
The casino has a state-of-the-art surveillance system, which helped Anne Arundel County track down their suspect in a matter of 24 hours.
Errick Lewis, 28, of Temple Hills, sits behind bars in Anne Arundel County where police say he robbed two people inside the parking garage of Maryland Live! casino.
"He's since been arrested and charged with his part in this robbery," said Lt. T.J. Smith, Anne Arundel County Police.
Police say Lewis walked up to the two victims as they were sitting inside of their car. They say he pulled out a gun and demanded money.
Even though police say Lewis used a pellet gun to carry out his crime, they say the charges are just as serious.
The frightened victims were able to give a description of the suspect's car. Lewis was also caught on surveillance video.
"A tipster called in on Sunday, actually, and said 'I know this guy. I recognize this guy,'" Smith said.
Crimes like this are enough to turn people away from the casino.
"There's always something over there going on--fights, robbery," said Janet Arnold, of Hanover.
In January, two men were arrested after robbing a man in the casino garage at knifepoint.
That same month, a 24-year-old woman was charged with child abuse after leaving her daughter inside of a car for eight hours while she was inside the casino.
Officials with Maryland Live! have not gone on camera about the recent criminal activity but in the past released a statement to WJZ, saying, "We have highly sophisticated resources at our disposal, as well as a substantial security force that makes it nearly impossible for anyone to perpetrate a crime on our property and get away with it."
"We hope that the word gets out to the network of bad guys that if you come there you're gonna get caught on camera. Big brother's watching and we're gonna go after you," Smith said.
Anne Arundel County Police say that Lewis confessed to the armed robbery and told investigators where they could find the stolen items.
Lewis is being held in lieu of $200,000 bail.
