Annapolis Woman Shot By Estranged Husband Denied Protective Order
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A woman who was critically injured by her estranged husband recently sought a protective order against him in Anne Arundel District Court, but it was denied.
Early Monday, police say Calvin Cofield, 60, shot Tracy Lyn West, 43, of Crownsville before killing himself.
The Capital reports West filed a motion seeking a protective order against Cofield on Dec. 31. Cofield was scheduled to appear in court in March for violating the order. He also filed a protective order against West. The temporary protective orders were then dismissed by a judge on Jan. 8.
West filed for divorce against Cofield last week.
Police said the shooting happened at West's workplace. The Washington Post later reported that it happened at the newspaper's Annapolis distribution center. West is a newspaper carrier.
