Annapolis Woman Pleads Guilty In Multiple ID Case
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say an Annapolis woman faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to using at least seven identities to defraud banks, lenders, insurers and the Social Security Administration of $2.6 million.
The U.S. Attorney's office says Winnie Joanne Barefoot, 57, pleaded guilty Friday and is to be sentenced June 12 in U.S. District Court in Baltimore.
Prosecutors say that from 2005 through 2009, Barefoot used stolen identities to take out loans on three properties in Annapolis, falsely representing her ability to repay the loans.
Prosecutors say she also provided false information to the Social Security Administration to receive disability benefits and used false information to apply for lines of credit for a business that fraudulently billed health insurers for physician services that were never provided.
