Annapolis Mayor-Elect Makes First Appointments
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Annapolis Mayor-elect Michael Pantelides is making the first appointments in his administration, despite talk on the City Council of possibly stripping the mayor's office of much of its power.
Pantelides announced Sunday that he is appointing Timothy Murnane as city attorney. He also appointed Rhonda Wardlaw to serve as the city's public information officer.
Murnane has been a trial attorney for more than 30 years and has served as a public defender in Anne Arundel County. The appointment of city attorney is subject to confirmation by the City Council.
Wardlaw has served as the city's public information officer since 2011 under Mayor Joshua Cohen. She also served in that role under Mayor Ellen Moyer.
Some City Council members have been discussing legislation to make the mayor's office largely ceremonial.
