Angela Showalter Takes A Look Back At The Orioles' Magical Season
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—The World Series is getting ready to start and even though the Orioles aren't there fans here are still talking about the team's amazing run to the playoffs.
Ron Matz has more on a season to remember and the woman who "buckled up" for all the excitement.
Orioles magic. You could see it and feel it everywhere. They were special moments for O's manager Buck Showalter and his wife Angela.
"It was very emotional to sit there and see the city come to life and the fans embrace the Orioles. We knew it was creating such hope for the city, and Baltimore is a great city," said Angela Showalter, Buck's wife.
We spoke with Angela at Jimmy's in Fells Point. She and Buck are deeply involved in charity work, helping Kids Peace and the Maryland Food Bank.
It was that night in Texas that meant so much to the Showalters and the city.
"I felt like a proud mom in Texas. It was really amazing. What was so important about that game was that we were going to be able to come back to Baltimore and let the Baltimore fans be part of the playoffs," Angela Showalter said.
And against the Yankees, O's fans celebrated Baltimore's first playoff game in 15 years.
Mark your calendars because the Orioles open the 2013 home season Friday, April 5 against the Minnesota Twins. O's fans and the Showalters can't wait.
"When you get to the playoffs there's something about it that you can't explain until you get there, and we hope we have that feeling a lot in the years to come," Angela Showalter said.
Buck and Angela Showalter have been married 29 years. They have two children, who are both attending college.
