Andy Harris Causes Stir After Health Care Remark

Maryland Congressman-elect Andy Harris has found himself in the middle of the health care controversy but for personal, rather than political, reasons.  Political reporter Pat Warren has more on what the freshman representative said.

Republican Andy Harris rode an anti-Obama health care tide to the US House of Representatives. 

"We'll show the nation our ideas and how we differ from the team in place now," Harris said.

So it stands to reason that wehn the Congressman-elect asked when he could expect his government health insurance to kick in, it did more than raise a few eyebrows.

"That sounds like a hypocrite," said one woman.

"It seems rather strange," said one man.

In fact, it's reported Harris--whose supporters vilified "Obamacare"--kicked up a fuss when told it's 28 days after taking office that the new representatives qualify for benefits.

Health care advocates point to stories of Harris' new constituents struggling to get by without health insurance and rescued through state-expanded health care.

Harris was not available for an interview but has said he wanted to clarify, not complain.

Harris beat Democrat Frank Kratovil, who served just one term.
