Amber Alert Cancelled, Missing 3-Year-Old Found In Mass.
NEW CASTLE, Del. (WJZ)-- The Amber Alert for Elinor Trotta is cancelled and police say her father, 43-year-old Michael Trotta is behind bars after they were found in Massachusetts.
Tracey Leong has more on the child's safe recovery and the father's connection to Maryland.
The alert spanned across several states including Maryland, including law enforcement from Cecil County because of the suspects ties to the area.
A mother's desperate plea for her child to be returned.
"The victim called 911, and reported that Michael assaulted her and took their 3-year-old daughter Elinor Trotta," police said.
Authorities say 43-year-old Michael Trotta assaulted Dawn Barkus, 3-year-old Elinor Trotta's mother at her home in Delaware before kidnapping the toddler Monday night.
"Michael is considered armed and dangerous. He has warrants for his arrest stemming from a previous assault on Feb 15th involving Elinor's mother. There are current warrants for Michael's arrest stemming from yesterday, which includes reckless endangering and carjacking," police said.
The amber alert also involving law enforcement in Cecil County.
"We have identified the suspect has family and use to live in Cecil County ," said Lt. Michael Holmes, Cecil Co. Sheriff's Office.
Michael and Elinor Trotta were found in Massachusetts less than 24 hours after the Amber Alert was issued. The child was found unharmed.
"Today is my birthday and I prayed all day to god that I would get her back and he gave me the best birthday present ever," said Elinor's mother.
Michael Trotta has been taken into custody. He faces charges of reckless endangering and carjacking.
