Alleged Victim In Penn State Sex Abuse Scandal Hires Baltimore Attorney
BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Another twist in the Jerry Sandusky child abuse scandal. In a new interview with "The New York Times," the former Penn State football coach fumbles again with a question about whether he's attracted to young boys.
Monique Griego explains one of the boys at the center of the scandal has hired a Baltimore attorney.
The attorney for alleged Victim Six-- as he's called in the grand jury report-- tells WJZ this latest interview just adds salt to open wounds.
In his second media interview since facing 40 charges of raping and molesting young boys he met through his charity, The Second Mile, former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky talks to "The New York Times," proclaiming his innocence.
One of the questions focuses on a previous interview with sportscaster Bob Costas.
"Am I sexually attracted to boys? No, I enjoy young people," he said.
"The New York Times" reporter asks Sandusky to clarify, but when answering, his attorney intervenes.
"If I say, 'No, I'm not attracted to boys,' that's not the truth because I'm attracted to young people-- boys, girls. But not sexually. You're attracted because you enjoy spending time. Right, I enjoy. That's what I was trying to say. I enjoy spending time with young people. I enjoy spending time with people," said Sandusky.
Baltimore-based Attorney Howard Janet represents one of Sandusky's alleged victims, named Victim Six, in the grand jury report.
"Watching Sandusky answer that question was unsettling," Janet said. "It was disturbing and I think it's very telling."
His client says he met Sandusky through the charity and claims that when he was 11 years old, Sandusky gave him a bear hug from behind while they were showering together naked.
"For most of these boys, it was an experience that they'd like to put out of their minds and like to forget," Janet said.
But Janet says interviews in which Sandusky denies charges is hard for his client to hear.
"To accuse these kids of lying about what's going on and him being the only one that's telling the truth is putting more salt in the wounds," he said.
Victim Six is now 24 and though his attorney is based in Baltimore, he is not. Janet says they may pursue a future civil claim against Penn State.
Sandusky's preliminary hearing is Dec. 13.
