Alleged Arundel Mills Mall Shooter Turns Himself In
BALTIMORE (WJZ) — The teen who allegedly opened fire at the Arundel Mills Mall is now in custody, police say.
Police say Hammond turned himself in, accompanied by his mother, at around 10:30 a.m.
Jamari Marquese Hammond is believed to have pulled a weapon inside the mall Saturday night, but they still have unanswered questions, like where the gun is now.
"Mr. Hammond turned himself in voluntarily to police," said Marc Limansky, Anne Arundel County Police spokesperson.
Just before 8 p.m. Saturday night, cell phone video captured the two gunshots and then the chaos that followed.
The 19-year-old victim is expected to survive.
Police said the 16-year-old will face several charges, including attempted murder.
They said the violence started as a verbal fight between two strangers when Hammond pulled a gun.
As mall goers scrambled to get away, there were several car crashes in the parking lot, and officers locked down the property.
They quickly named Hammond as a suspect, launching a more than 48 hour manhunt.
Now in custody, police said they will finally be able to ask still unanswered questions.
"We are very interested in the whereabouts of the weapon that he used. We don't have information on that yet," Limansky said.
As of now, Hammond is charged as an adult.
