African Immigrant Gets 7 Years In D.C. Child Abuse
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A man from the African nation of Eritrea has been sentenced to seven years in prison for sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl in the District of Columbia.
Twenty-six-year-old Abraham Ayele-Sium was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Washington after pleading guilty to second-degree child abuse and failing to register as a sex offender. He faces deportation upon release.
Ayele-Sium's attorney says he came to the U.S. in 2010. He was convicted in San Diego in 2012 of misdemeanor child molestation involving two 10-year-old girls.
Ayele-Sium moved to Prince George's County in 2012 and then to the District, where he didn't register as a sex offender.
Metropolitan police arrested Ayele-Sium last October for sexually molesting an 11-year-old girl after luring her away from church by offering to buy her ice cream.
