Actor Retraces Lincoln's Inaugural Journey To D.C.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- An actor is retracing President Lincoln's journey from Springfield, Ill., to Washington to commemorate the 150th anniversary of his inauguration.
Fritz Klein is making the journey as part of a program sponsored by the National Park Service. He began Feb. 11 and is scheduled to arrive in Washington on Wednesday.
Lincoln made the 1861 journey to his inauguration in Washington by train, stopping in 16 cities and towns to speak to a nation on the brink of civil war.
Timothy Good, superintendent of the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site in Missouri, says Klein is traveling by car for part of the trip, but will ride an Amtrak train from Baltimore to Washington to complete the reenactment.
