Accounting Degree Leads Baltimore Entrepreneurs To In-Home Care Franchise

Every day, Baltimoreans are faced with the heart-wrenching decision of locating the appropriate care facility for a loved one. One local professional has a phenomenal approach to home health care with the mission of making this choice much easier and possibly even unnecessary.

The former owner of multiple nursing homes, Steven Diamond partnered with his wife to become franchisees of Synergy HomeCare, an around-the-clock, in-home health service that provides specialized caregivers to all in need - from expectant mothers to dementia patients.

The Diamonds are also co-founders of Hands Across the Americas, a non-profit dedicated to providing medical aid and education to impoverished inhabitants of North and South America. The organization is supported by the biceps of approximately 200 committed volunteers who have raised over four million dollars and assisted 50,000 to date.

Where did you receive your higher education? In what field(s)?

"I studied at the University of Baltimore. I graduated with a B.S. degree in Accounting."

How has your education contributed to your career success to date?

"I practiced accounting in the health care field, which eventually led to an opportunity to purchase a nursing home. Years later, I sold the nursing homes and opened up a SYNERGY In-Home Care franchise."

If you could describe your career with three adjectives, what would they be?

"Now that I help people stay out of nursing homes, rather than enter into them, I find my career to be rewarding, exciting and thanks to the demand for this service - successful."

Do you have any advice for others who would like to follow in your footsteps?

"My advice would be: be passionate about your work, be compassionate toward your clients, strive for excellence and work hard."
