AA Co. Police Investigate Possible Murder-Suicide
BROOKLYN PARK, Md. (WJZ)-- A devastating discovery. An entire family dead in an apparent murder suicide. Now, a Brooklyn Park community is trying to come to terms with the loss.
Meghan McCorkell has the latest.
Neighbors and co-workers say 33-year old Kelly Thompson was acting perfectly normal just Saturday. Sunday night, he's accused of killing his wife and stepchildren before turning the gun on himself.
Friends and family members are all devastated at the gruesome discovery inside the 607 Wood Street townhome.
"I don't know what's going through my head right now," said neighbor Kevin Fullerton. "It's crazy."
"It's unbelievable," said Tiffani Price. "I don't understand."
Police say 33-year old Kelly Thompson shot and killed his wife, 34-year old Nina Thompson and her son and daughter-- 15-year-old twins, Treshawn (male) and Taishawn (female) Pugh. Then, he turned the gun on himself.
Police also heard that final shot. Police were first alerted to this house after a relative received a disturbing text message.
"The content was disturbing to them and they wanted officers to assist checking the well-being of the people inside," said Lt. J.D. Batten of the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Police believe Kelly Thompson killed himself with officers right outside.
"I don't see him doing this," Price said. "He's not that type of person at all to do this. That's why I don't understand."
Price worked with Nina Thompson at Occupational Health Services. Nina Thompson worked as a nurse and Kelly Thompson was a truck driver. She says the family acted completely normal at a company picnic Saturday.
"They were fine yesterday," Price said. "They weren't arguing or nothing."
"We never heard arguments from the family," said Fullerton. "Police were never there."
Fullerton lived right across the street and knew Kelly Thompson well.
"He was a very decent guy," Fullerton said. "Always waved to you. Always blew his horn when he came by."
Now, loved ones are trying to figure out what could have pushed him over the edge.
"It's unbelievable," Price said. "I want to know why. Why this all happened."
WJZ has learned that Kelly Thompson had faced legal action from more than one lending company over the years. Neighbors say he had recently sold both his cars.
The Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Unit is handling the investigation.
