Opening Of Md. Bond Sale Delayed Until Next Week
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Maryland Treasurer Nancy Kopp says the opening of a $718 million bond sale is being postponed because of the debt ceiling debate in Washington.
Kopp says the opening, which was to begin on Friday, will be delayed until Monday.
The treasurer says her office decided to delay the opening in order to give people breathing space over the weekend to digest the debate in Washington.
The money from the sale will be used to refinance debt and help pay for school construction.
The White House and Congress have been at an impasse on how to address debt limit before an Aug. 2 default deadline.
