91-Year-Old Woman Murdered In Northeast Baltimore
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Baltimore City Police are trying to figure out who would kill an elderly woman in the middle of the afternoon and why.
Andrea Fujii has the latest on the investigation and reaction from the woman's stunned family.
It's an active investigation as police look for answers. The family members of the victim also want answers and a reason someone would kill a woman so many loved.
Grieving family members gathered outside the home of 91-year-old Irene Logan. City police say the elderly woman was stabbed inside her house at 4708 Moravia Road Wednesday afternoon.
Logan's daughter is the one who found her.
"She saw her mother laying down in the kitchen floor," said Logan's son-in-law, Frank Ushry. "She called 911. That was it."
Detectives and forensic experts combed through the house looking for evidence.
Family members say they hadn't noticed anything or anyone suspicious around the house recently. They say it appears the person who killed her was looking for something.
"Only after the police came," said her daughter, Irene Ushry. "They had done some ransacking in my bedroom."
The house belongs to Logan's daughter and her husband. They say she'd been living with them for the past 10 years.
Irene Logan was an energetic and active senior citizen who everyone knew as "Granny." She was also the aunt of former Baltimore school board president Patricia Welch.
"If anyone has seen anything that they think suspicious in that neighborhood, that they come forward and speak with us," said Nicole Monroe, Baltimore City Police.
Logan is survived by three children, as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
