7 Teens From Laurel Charged As Adults In Assault & Robbery
LAUREL, Md. (WJZ)—Seven teens from Laurel are charged as adults in the an assault and robbery of a Columbia teen earlier this month.
The 16-year-old male victim reported he was walking in the area of Hayshed Lane and Yellowrose Court in Columbia on Aug. 2 just after 10 a.m. when he was approached by a group of male teenagers riding in a black SUV.
He reported that the teens exited the car and began punching and stomping him.
He told officers they stole his iPhone and cash.
The victim's jaw was fractured in the assault and he was transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital. He has since been released.
Through investigation, detectives identified 17-year-old Drew Jeremiah Abraham, who drives a 2003 black Ford Explorer, as a possible suspect. Investigators gathered additional information and soon linked Abraham and the other six suspects to the incident.
Charged with first- and second-degree assault, robbery, theft and reckless endangerment are:
Abraham, Abdul Rahman Cole, 16; Davon Phillip Jones, 16; Dario Glendell Burley, Jr., 17, and Ike Oheneba Lawrence, Jr., 16. They were released on $20,000 bond. Jeffrey Michelet Francois, 18, was released on $25,000 bond. Shareff Abdul Malik Aroi, 16, is held on $25,000 bond.
Police have not ruled out that there may have been other suspects involved in the incident.
They say they are unable to release details about the evidence at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.
