600-Mile Bike Ride Brings Md. Man To Ill. Reunion
CHILLICOTHE, Ill. (AP) -- A 68-year-old Maryland man got to his 50th high school reunion in central Illinois the hard way.
Kent Menser of Columbia, Md., hopped on his bicycle in Belle Vernon, Pa., on Saturday and rode 600 miles to Illinois to
celebrate with other 1962 graduates of Chillicothe Township High School.
The (Peoria) Journal Star reports that Menser rolled into town Thursday evening and was greeted by a friend he hadn't seen for five decades -- Chillicothe Fire Chief John Myers.
Menser and his riding partner averaged about 100 miles and 12 hours on the road each day as they crossed Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana and half of Illinois.
Menser says the long ride was something he'd wanted to do. But he adds that he's glad it is over.
