6-Year-Old Killed in Westminster Crash
WESTMINSTER, Md. (WJZ) -- A 6-year-old girl was killed in a car accident Monday evening.
According to police, there was a single car crash at Wakefield Valley Road and Route 31.
Officials say a 2002 Jeep Liberty was traveling east on Rt. 31 when it slid on the wet roadway. The SUV veered off the eastbound shoulder and struck a utility pole.
Marissa Meridith Carter died during the crash as a result of head trauma. Officials say she was in a child safety seat but the seat was not properly installed.
Carter's mother, 39-year-old Rise Lorraine Berger, was taken to a local hospital, where she refused treatment.
Alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
