5th Annual Faces Of Valor Honors Local Wounded Warrior

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ)— It's called Faces of Valor USA. It's an Anne Arundel County organization that honors local heroes.

Ron Matz has more on a motorcycle ride with a mission and a family fundraiser designed to help a wounded warrior.

Sergeant Mike Cain lost his right leg in Iraq in 2003.

"I blacked out and couldn't remember much of anything," said Sgt. Cain. "I looked down and could see my bones and everything. I knew something bad had just happened."

He's endured 72 surgeries.

"It's been very strenuous for me, but I'm breathing. I'm alive. I'm really not going to complain too much," Sgt. Cain said.

Cain needs a special truck, and the owners of Annapolis's legendary Chick & Ruth's Delly will help him get one. Saturday is their fifth annual Faces of Valor fund raiser.

"We've been doing the pledge of allegiance at Chick & Ruth's for many years," said Ted Levitt, Faces of Valor USA. "My wife, Beth and I, decided we wanted to take Faces of Valor to the next level. Instead of just talking the talk, we wanted to walk the walk."

"In this foundation we meet so many guys and girls who have been through so much. To be able to help them out in a small way is so important, " said Beth Levitt, Chick & Ruth's Delly .

Saturday's event includes a motorcycle ride and classic car show.

"We'll start Saturday morning with a 9:30 a.m. motorcycle ride at the Outback in Annapolis. It will go through Annapolis and end at the Anne Arundel County fairgrounds. Then we'll have a 5K run and walk, and at 10 o'clock there's a classic car show also at the fairgrounds," said Ted Levitt.

A 1931 Buick features many of the Faces of Valor—all local heroes like Sgt. Cain, who is happy to be alive.

"We set up a foundation that's all volunteer. Every penny that we raise goes to someone we honor every year. We're proud to be an American and proud to be in America and free and able to do what we want to do," Ted Levitt said.

"We're very excited about Saturday's event. People can come out and walk and run. We have a wonderful silent auction. It's going to be a fun day. We expect several hundred people this year and hopefully it will just keep growing," said Beth Levitt.

Saturday's fund raiser begins at 9:30 a.m. with a motorcycle ride starting at the Outback restaurant in Annapolis. For more information, click here.
