O'Malley Begins Presidential Campaign
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Former Governor Martin O'Malley is on the presidential campaign trail after announcing his candidacy in a speech that's drawn national attention.
Political reporter Pat Warren was at that announcement Saturday.
O'Malley put truth to speculation although by Saturday there was virtually no doubt he would run.
He and his family took the stage with a cheering crowd and a promise to rebuild the American Dream.
"And that's why today to you and to all who can hear my voice, I declare that I am a candidate for President of the Unite States and I am running for you," O'Malley said.
He went right from the stage to Federal Hill to take on Hilary on the stage of national news shows.
"I'm comfortable as an underdog," O'Malley said.
"Hilary Clinton is so far ahead of all her primary opponents, it just seems almost impossible for him to catch up," Matthew Crenson, a political analyst said, "but it's a long time between now and the primaries and conventions and a lot can happen and we're used to having surprises in American politics."
O'Malley reminded us of his mayor's race.
"When I ran for mayor my two opponents both have name recognition north of 80 percent and I was first choice of a whopping 7 percent of my neighbors," he said.
And now he's making a name by making waves.
"I've got news for the bullies of Wall Street, the presidency is not a corwn to be passed back and forth between two royal families," O'Malley said.
Pat: "What circumstances would have to play out for us to have a President O'Malley?"
Crenson: "A miracle."

O'Malley spent the weekend campaigning in Iowa and New Hamsphire.
