5 Top 25 Teams Make For A Wide-Open ACC Tourney
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- Coaches always praise the Atlantic Coast Conference women's basketball tournament for being a wide-open affair that nearly any team can win.
That might be even more true this year.
Five of the 12 teams are ranked in the latest Associated Press Top 25, making for an unpredictable stretch of 11 games in four days beginning Thursday.
No. 8 Duke (26-3), the defending champion, holds the No. 1 seed.
No. 10 Miami (26-3) -- the regular-season co-champion with Duke -- is the second seed. No. 14 Florida State (23-6) and No. 13 Maryland (23-6) are seeded third and fourth, and No. 19 North Carolina (22-7) is the No. 6 seed.
Georgia Tech coach Machelle Joseph says having so many ranked teams in the field "makes it exciting to see how this is going to play out."
