Howard Co. Teacher Charged For Allegedly Having Sex With Teen
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WJZ) -- A former Howard County teacher has been arrested and now faces serious charges after allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old boy.
Derek Valcourt has more on the allegations in the case.
Police said the 14-year-old victim was expecting to meet a 16-year-old boy, but instead he met a grown adult.
The arrest of 36-year-old Christopher Fox is spreading fast at the Howard County schools, where he once worked as a technology teacher.
"He was a cool teacher," Rogan Devlin, a student at Atholton High School, said. "A lot of people liked him and something like this was just tragic."
Police said Fox and a 14-year-old boy met in an online chat. According to charging documents the 14-year-old victim though Fox was 16. The victim agreed to a late night meeting at a rural Howard County gazebo. Despite Fox's noticeable age difference, the two had sex.
The teen then went home and called police. He said Fox knew he was only 14 years old. Police said DNA collected at the gazebo matched Fox's.
Howard County school officials said since Sept. 2013, Fox has been working at a building services facility and not in a school. He has been placed on administrative leave and is banned from entering any Howard County school.
Fox had previously worked at Atholton High School, Folly Quarter Middle School and Mount View Middle School. He was also a junior varsity baseball coach at Glenelg High School for a brief time.
Police said they are investigating whether Fox has engaged in similar acts with any other minors.
"So we're urging anyone who may have had any sort of inappropriate contact with him to please contact police," Lori Boone with Howard County police said.
Fox has been charged with four sex offenses and solicitation of a minor. If convicted on all counts, Fox faces the possibility of up to 50 years in prison.
Fox lives in an apartment complex on Orpin Road in Randallstown.
