4 Correctional Officers Hurt Restraining Inmate
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Prison officials say four officers at the Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown were injured while they restrained an inmate.
The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services says an officer preparing to escort an inmate to a medical appointment was struck by the inmate Wednesday morning. Officials say others responded to the attack, and used pepper spray and force to restrain the inmate. The officer who was hit and three officers exposed to pepper spray were treated at a local clinic.
Officials tell The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown that the inmate will be transferred to a maximum-security prison.
