3rd Baby Born On Md. Highways In A Week
MILLERSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Denise Deal and her husband, Jim, thought they had enough time to get to a hospital delivery room.
Instead, they became the third couple in a week to deliver a newborn on one of Maryland's highways.
When Denise started having contractions Sunday morning, they headed to Anne Arundel Medical Center, but as they sped along on Interstate 97, her contractions got stronger, so Jim pulled over.
After a few pushes, Jim Deal says daughter Madison was in his arms, but she wasn't breathing. With coaching from a 911 dispatcher, he tickled the newborn's back and she began to scream and cry. Paramedics arrived and took the mother and newborn to the hospital.
Last week, a woman gave birth on Baltimore's Beltway and another baby was born along on I-97.
