30 Pet Rats Dumped On Grounds Of Md. Middle School
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Rats at a public school are usually bad news, but there's a silver lining to this story.
Thirty rats were found over the weekend on the grounds of Western Heights Middle School in Hagerstown. The Humane Society of Washington County says they are domesticated animals -- and they make wonderful pets.
Principal Stephen Tarason says they even come when called.
He says someone apparently dumped the rats on the school grounds or in the nearby woods.
Tarason says the building manager who found the rats told him they were huddled under a pine tree in an area that is not used as a playground.
