Captain Badly Burned, 2 Others Hurt In Essex Boat Fire
ESSEX, Md. (WJZ) -- Several people are being treated for burns after their boat goes up in flames.
Pictures obtained by WJZ show the cabin cruiser powerboat completely engulfed.
It happened Saturday afternoon in Essex at the Baltimore Yacht Club.
Fire officials say three people were hurt--the boat's captain, Duane Knudsen, and two female passengers.
WJZ spoke exclusively to the captain's brother, who says he has serious burns.
"He has burns over 50 percent of his body," said Todd Knudsen, brother. "Also, his legs and arms and some facial. Not the groin area because, as on a boat, you're wearing a bathing suit. Duane's been boating ever since he was five. So, almost 50 years of boating experience."
The brother was told the boat had mechanical problems and caught fire at a fuel station.
No official cause has been released.
