3-Alarm Fire Rips Through Warehouse In Baltimore Co.
BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ)-- Approximately 200 firefighters from across the Baltimore County area battled a massive 3-alarm blaze on Tuesday afternoon.
The call in around 1:07 p.m. for a fire at what is believed to be a plastic manufacturing company located in the in the 4500 block of Annapolis Road.
The plumes of black smoke could be seen for miles as crews worked to get a handle on the flames.
"It's a defensive operation, [we're] trying to just contain it to the warehouse that it's in," said a spokesperson with the Baltimore County Fire Department.
Officials say there are hazmat materials near the warehouse, but that area is being protected.
"There is a fire barrier, a fire wall, between the warehouse and the area where the hazmats are. We are keeping the area cooled down and keeping the fire away from that area," said officials.
Everyone inside the warehouse escaped unharmed.
Authorities say one firefighter was transported to the hospital for possible heat exhaustion.
Fire crews remained on the scene for several hours.
"What they were storing there is little plastic beads, the pellets that they melt down to make plastic products. That's what stored there. That's what's burning," said Paul Massarelli of the Baltimore County Fire Department.
BGE had to be called in to shut off a gas line to the building that helped feed the fire.
Annapolis Road is shut down between the Anne Arundel County line and New York Avenue due to the fire.
