Second Re-Enactment Of Antietam Battle Planned In Md.
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A living-history group is announcing plans for a second re-enactment of the Battle of Antietam in western Maryland next September to mark the 150th anniversary of the bloodiest day of the Civil War.
The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown reported Thursday that Civil War Heritage of Gettysburg, Pa., plans to mount two battle scenarios during the weekend of Sept. 14-16 on private land near Sharpsburg.
Another group, called Rear Rank Productions, announced in August that it is planning a re-enactment the weekend of Sept. 8-9 on private land near Boonsboro.
The Battle of Antietam was fought Sept. 17, 1862, near Sharpsburg. It was the bloodiest one-day battle of the war, with more than 23,000 soldiers killed, wounded or declared missing.
