2 Teens Injured By Hit-And-Run Driver
PASADENA, Md. (WJZ) -- Two teenagers are recovering after being hit by a large SUV late Friday night. Now the search for the driver continues. The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. Friday on Mountain Road in Pasadena.
Rochelle Ritchie explains people are not surprised by the tragic accident.
Mountain Road is highly traveled and many say it's a road known for problems.
Debris remains on the side of Mountain Road where two teenagers were hit while walking late Friday night.
"It's really dangerous. We've had a couple of people getting hit from our school at Chesapeake," said Savannah Reynolds.
Anne Arundel County Police say three teenagers were walking not too far from one of the victims' home. Two of them, a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, were hit by a large SUV at the corner of Alvin Road.
"I heard a big bang and I thought someone was trying to get in my garage or the basement," said one neighbor.
The teens suffered serious injuries. The boy was taken to Shock Trauma; the girl was taken to Johns Hopkins.
By the time police arrived to the scene, the drier had already taken off. Suspect vehicle investigators say a Ford Expedition struck the teens. The vehicle should have damage to the passenger side headlight and turn light.
Those who grew up in the area were taught early on this is not a pedestrian-friendly road.
"We were kind of preached at not to do that," said Jason Jackson.
Accidents along Mountain Road are a common occurrence according to nearby business owners, who say speed is also a factor.
"They drive way too fast. They just don't realize it. They just fly by here at 60, 70 miles per hour," said business owner Cynthia Zwobot.
