2 Signal Intent To Plead In D.C. Bribery Case
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Two former District Department of the Environment employees have signaled they will plead guilty in a case involving taking bribes to overlook alleged environmental violations at a southwest Washington construction site.
Maryland residents Gregory Scott and Joe Parrish were arrested in September. Prosecutors on Monday filed a legal document in their case called a criminal information, which typically signals a person is preparing to enter a guilty plea because it cannot be filed without the defendant's consent.
The document says that in the summer of 2011 Scott and Parrish told construction managers at one site that they found violations in the handling of hazardous asbestos material that could result in fines of up to $300,000. The document says they agreed to accept $20,000 in bribes to overlook the alleged problems.
