2 Rescued After Explosion Starts Sailboat Fire
HACKS POINT, Md. (AP) -- A Pennsylvania man and his 3-year-old son were rescued in a northwest Maryland river by a passing boater after an engine explosion set his sailboat on fire.
The 28-foot Columbia Cabin sailboat was traveling on the Bohemia River near Scotchman Creek on Saturday afternoon when the engine stopped.
When Douglas Pinnard, 52, of Morgantown, Pa., tried to restart the engine, Maryland Natural Resources Police say the engine exploded, setting the vessel afire. Pinnard and his 3-year-old son were rescued by a passing vessel.
Fire companies from Hacks Point, Cecilton and Chesapeake City responded, but police say the boat was a total loss.
