2 Fined For Baiting Black Bears In Western Md.
OAKLAND, Md. (AP) -- A western Maryland man and a hunter from Baltimore County have been fined up to $500 each for using corn and molasses to lure bears for hunting.
Natural Resources Police Sgt. Art Windemuth says farmer Lee Brenneman of Accident was fined $450 Thursday for using an attractant during the black bear season in October.
Brenneman also must pay $1,000 in restitution to a fund that helps buy equipment for Maryland conservation officers.
Donald Gutermuth of Baldwin paid a $500 fine last week for hunting bear with the aid of bait on Brenneman's land.
Police say Gutermuth paid Brenneman $850 for a hunting package that included lodging. They say they arrested him on opening day before he could shoot a bear.
