2 Face Charges In Deadly Hit-And-Run
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Criminal charges have been filed against two people for a hit-and-run that left two teenagers dead. WJZ obtained police dispatch recordings revealing the intense search for the suspects.
Adam May has more on the crime that left two families devastated.
Those two young girls were left for dead at the intersection of Martin Luther King and Pratt in June. Now, three months later, there's been an arrest in the case.
Emerald Smith and Courtney Angeles, best friends since kindergarten, were hit by a car that ran a red light just blocks away from their home. The teens died minutes later at Shock Trauma on June 13.
Dispatcher: "Multiple pedestrians struck at MLK and Pratt."
Officer: "On the scene. Looks like we have two down."
Dispatcher: "The vehicle that struck the pedestrians has left the scene."
Police recordings reveal numerous witnesses described the getaway car. It was stopped 20 minutes later.
Dispatcher: "Transportation Authority is gonna try to call you all. They have a possible vehicle stopped in reference to the pedestrians struck."
Officer: "Do they have a location where they have the vehicle?"
Dispatcher: "They have it down by the airport."
After a detailed investigation, prosecutors got an indictment, charging the alleged driver, Reuben Dunn, with two counts of auto manslaughter and his passenger, Kendra Myles, as an accessory. The couple lived with their children in Severn.
The victims' families hope for a conviction.
"I want them to feel what I feel, feel pain and hurt, because if they're in jail and they have children, they won't get to see their kids the way I'll never get to see my daughter again except at a graveyard. It's not fair," said Mary Smith.
The attorney for the alleged driver tells WJZ's media partner, the Baltimore Sun, that his client was not behind the wheel. For now, he is locked up without bail.
Prosecutors say the couple switched seats before they were stopped by police.
