Man Hospitalized After Exposure To Hydrochloric Acid
MIDDLE RIVER, Md. (WJZ)—An employee was hospitalized on Friday when police say he was exposed to hydrochloric acid.
It happened just after 11:00 a.m. at the Middle River Aircraft Systems located in the 100 block of Chesapeake Park Plaza.
Authorities say two employees were transferring hydrochloric acid from one container to another moments before an explosion occurred. Police say after the container transfer, the process of flushing out the transfer hose caused a burst.
A preliminary investigation has revealed that one of the employees was equipped with protective clothing, but not respiratory gear. As a result, authorities say they were splashed with acid and inhaled some of the fumes.
The employee was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center for treatment. Police say two other individuals were evaluated, but declined medical treatment.
