2 Baltimore Co. Senators File Redistricting Suit
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A lawsuit has been filed by two state lawmakers who want the state's highest court to invalidate the General Assembly's redistricting plan.
The Baltimore Sun reports that Sens. Delores Kelley and James Brochin, both Baltimore County Democrats, contend that the plan gives the city of Baltimore extra representation at the expense of the county.
Brochin's district would become heavily Republican under the plan created by Gov. Martin O'Malley and state legislative leaders.
The map also moves much of Kelley's former 10th District base into the 44th District.
Assistant Attorney General Dan Friedman has expressed confidence that the Maryland Court of Appeals will uphold the redistricting plan.
