2-Alarm Fire Heavily Damages Dundalk Crab House
DUNDALK, Md. (AP) -- A two-alarm fire has heavily damaged a Baltimore County crab house that is a landmark in the Dundalk neighborhood.
Lt. Jay Ringgold of the Baltimore County Fire Department says an employee of Ross' Crab House noticed a fire in the restaurant's basement at about 7:25 p.m. Sunday. The spokesman said six employees and 15 customers who were in the house-like structure were safely evacuated, and a fire engine that was a block away was on the scene a minute later.
Unable to access the fire, however, firefighters went into a defensive mode and contained the fire to the building.
As of 9:30 p.m., however, about 60 firefighters with 15 pieces of equipment were still battling the blaze.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known. One firefighter was treated for elevated blood pressure.
With its motto "Crabs Are Our Business," the family-owned restaurant has been serving crabs and other seafood dishes since 1960, according to its website.
