2 Aircraft Intercepted In D.C. Region
WASHINGTON (AP) -- NORAD says military aircraft intercepted two civilian aircraft in separate incidents in the Washington region.
The North American Aerospace Defense Command says the first aircraft was out of radio communication Saturday morning. The plane was intercepted by two Air Force F-16s, but once it regained communication it was allowed to proceed.
NORAD says the second aircraft was intercepted by an F-16 and a U.S. Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter about an hour later after it entered into restricted airspace. Once it was escorted out of the restricted airspace, the aircraft was allowed to proceed to its original destination.
NORAD did not have details about the aircrafts' fight plans or exactly where they were intercepted.
