First Black Graduate Of USNA To Be Interred
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The first black graduate from the U.S. Naval Academy is scheduled to be interred this week at the academy.
The academy on Monday announced plans for a memorial service for retired Lt. Cmdr. Wesley Brown, who died last month at the age of 85 in Silver Spring.
The service is scheduled for Wednesday in Annapolis at the academy's chapel. The chapel service will be open to the public.
The academy says Brown's family is donating his class ring and his Reef Points book, which was issued to him in 1945 in his freshman year, to the school. Reef Points is the official handbook for midshipmen. It outlines basic information about the academy's mission and history.
Brown, a Baltimore native, graduated from the academy in 1949.
