17 Men Arrested In Md. In Immigration Sweep
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Seventeen illegal immigrants or immigrant fugitives have been arrested in Maryland.
The arrests, announced Friday, took place in Prince George's County and surrounding areas and are part of a three-day enforcement operation run by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Authorities say all 17 men had prior criminal convictions and come from countries including El Salvador, Mexico, Jamaica and Sierra Leone.
Two of the arrested men were immigration fugitives who had previously been ordered to leave the country but failed to leave. Two had previously been removed from the country but had re-entered, which is a federal felony.
