15-Year-Old Charged As Juvenile After Stealing SUV With Baby Inside
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A 15-year-old is facing charges of abducting a baby after allegedly stealing an SUV with the child still inside.
Exclusive video taken by WJZ shows the end of what was an intense search citywide for a teen police say stole an SUV with a baby boy inside.
"We are so happy that we found him," the family of the baby said.
The traumatic ordeal unfolded Wednesday along the 400 block of Kane Street in Southeast Baltimore, when a mother's worst fear became reality.
Police say the mother left her 11-month-old child inside the car, along with her keys. That's when a teenage boy came down the street, hopped in and took off.
After more than two hours and an Amber Alert being issued, a pair of good Samaritans found Leo Garcia Lopez abandoned in his car seat in Northeast Baltimore.
"He was shivering, he was red in his face, his hands were cold," said Charlmaine Wilson, found baby and had her husband call police.
Shortly after, only WJZ was with police when they tracked down the juvenile suspect and stolen car along Pelham Drive.

Twenty-four hours later, the two who found the toddler were honored by city police for their heroic actions.
"God only knows if the baby could have been left there any longer, any number of scenarios could have evolved," said Commissioner Kevin Davis, Baltimore City Police Department.
It's a crucial reminder for all of Baltimore to speak up.
"I hope this gets contagious. When people see things that just don't feel right or look right, you've got to let the police know," Comm. Davis said.
The baby is expected to be OK.
The 15-year-old arrested is being charged as a juvenile on charges of abduction and harboring a child.
