$13.M Owings Mill Blvd. Project Complete
BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- Baltimore County opens a new road linking Owings Mills and Randallstown, saving commuters time and boosting revenue for surrounding businesses.
The $13-million project will help with traffic flow and reducing congestion at Winands Road in Owings Mills to Liberty Road in Randallstown.
"It's a direct link from the Liberty Road commercial areas to the Owings Mill growth area, 795 and Reisterstown Road," said Steve Walsh, Director of Public Works Baltimore County.
It's projected that more than 30,000 cars will drive on this stretch of road a day.
For people who live in the area it's a relief to have traffic diverted out of neighborhood streets.
"It will free up for us to get to where we need to go the extension instead of having to travel down Liberty Road to get to our destination," said Keith Dyson, with King's Park Estates Community Association.
This link will also giving drivers easier access to businesses with a more direct route.
"Offering incentives for consumers to shop in our area so they would actually be getting more exposure and making more money," said Kelly Carter, with the Liberty Road Business Association.
Construction for this road began in the fall of 2013.
Planning for this new corridor actually began in 1982.
