11 WWII Airmen Get Arlington Burial
ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) -- The recently recovered remains of 11 World War II airmen are being laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
A group burial ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at the post chapel.
The men were aboard a B-24D Liberator that disappeared Nov. 20, 1943, near the northern coast of New Guinea. The plane was found in 1984, but it took investigators more than 20 years to identify the remains.
The airmen were Charles Bode of Baltimore, Edward French of Erie, Pa; Richard Heuss of Berkley, Mich.; Ivan Kirkpatrick of Whittier, Calif.; James Moore of Woburn, Mass.; James Moran of Sloatsburg, N.Y.; William Musgrave of Hutsonville, Ill.; Robert Streckenbach of Green Bay, Wis.; Roy Surabian of Medford, Mass.; and Robert Miller and Lucian Oliver, both of Memphis, Tenn.
