$10K Reward Now Being Offered After Dog Is Set On Fire
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A $10,000 reward is now being offered after a dog is set on fire in Baltimore.
In the usually quiet North Harford Park, a burnt patch in the grass is a grim reminder of the dog who was set on fire less than two weeks ago.
"Police were called to the 6800 block of Hamlet Avenue," said police. "Firefighters had already arrived, they had gotten a call for a fire. Police responded because when firefighters extinguished the fire, it was a bag. And inside that bag was a dog."
The dog was pronounced dead at the scene.
As a dog owner herself, a neighbor--who did not want to appear on camera--is disgusted.
"I was sick and I was horrified, and again worried. Because of the fact that who would do something like that."
So far, police say they have no suspects, but are hoping someone has information.
Baltimore Police say whoever is responsible for this violence is probably capable of much more.
"People who do things like this to animals, they have a propensity for violence and it may escalate," said authorities. "So we definitely want to get this person identified and we definitely want to get this person off the street."
So do the Humane Society and PETA, which have both put up $5,000 rewards for information.
Emily Hovermale, Maryland State Director, of the Humane Society of the United States tells WJZ, "It's a really horrible thing to think about someone being so cruel and so callous as to be able to do that to a little living creature who was somebody's pet."
While the Humane Society believes this was a pet, the neighbor we spoke with today says it likely did not come from her neighborhood.
