1 Killed, 3 Injured In Silver Spring Fire
SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP) -- One person has died from injuries sustained in an apartment fire in Silver Spring.
More than 100 firefighters responded to the blaze early Tuesday morning at the Montgomery Towers apartments and rescued residents on upper floors, escorting them down a ladder.
Montgomery County fire officials say Edward Mager, 63, was seriously burned and died at a hospital. Three other people were injured, including a 6-year-old child and a 79-year-old women.
The fire apparently started on the sixth floor of the building. Some residents said they heard a big explosion. Many residents were alerted by neighbors knocking on their doors.
