1 Dead After Triple Shooting In Port Deposit
PORT DEPOSIT, Md. (WJZ) -- One man is dead after being shot in his home in Cecil County--but the story doesn't end there.
Rochelle Ritchie has more on the shocking details coming out of the small town of Port Deposit.
Maryland State Police troopers say a woman was also shot. She is now fighting for her life. The shooter is now in the hospital and under arrest.
Neighbors are left in disbelief.
"I was in the kitchen and heard shots fired," said Wendy Lehr.
Lehr lives just a few hundred feet from where fatal shots were fired, killing the homeowner--48-year-old Timothy Hammons--and wounding Eileen Roland, 56, of Edgewood.
"It's kind of scary that right next door, right in the woods, someone decided to shoot someone," Lehr said.
Around 7:30 p.m. Monday, calls to 911 began coming in, saying shots could be heard coming from a home tucked away just off of Craigstown Road, where investigators continue putting the pieces of the murder puzzle together.
"Troopers observed a female with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. As they went into the house, there was a male subject found there as well with a gunshot wound to the upper torso as well," said Maryland State Police Sgt. Marc Black.
The man, Hammons, died at the scene. The woman, Roland, was taken to Shock Trauma.
"He was very quiet to me. I never had a word with him and I've been living here six years," said one neighbor.
Investigators say the shooter drove less than a mile to a local business, pulled into the parking lot and shot himself. He survived and is now being treated for life threatening injuries.
The town of Port Deposit has under 1,000 residents so when crimes like this happen, it's an unfortunate reminder that no place is too small for big crime.
"Crime in Cecil County is beginning to build. I mean, next door. We're not in the city, we're kind of in the country," said Lehr.
Homicide detectives are remaining tight-lipped about the suspect's relationship to the victims but say a heated argument escalated between the trio.
