1 Dead, 1 Injured In St. Mary's Plane Crash
HOLLYWOOD, Md. (AP) -- The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash of a glider near St. Mary's Regional Airport in southern Maryland that killed one person and injured another.
NTSB spokesman Peter Knudson says the Slingsby 49B glider was being towed by another plane Friday afternoon and crashed into trees shortly after takeoff near the airport after it became disconnected from the towing plane.
He says one person died after being ejected from the plane and another person who remained in the glider was hospitalized for injures.
Knudson did not have the identities of the people inside the glider. He says there was not inclement weather at the time of the crash.
The spokesman says the NTSB will release a preliminary report of the accident within 10 days.
